What the engine calculates.
Mercury retrograde is a perspective effect: seen from Earth, the planet appears to move backward through the zodiac for 20 to 24 days, because Mercury and Earth orbit the Sun at different speeds. Its orbit does not reverse.
The start of each period is the retrograde station and the end is the direct station: the two moments when the planet's speed along the zodiac passes through zero. No date was typed by hand. Swiss Ephemeris 2.10.03 calculates them, and an automated test requires this page's list to be identical to what the engine returns.
Near a station the planet almost stands still, so different sources can disagree by a few minutes. The site's test checks every date against a second ephemeris library (astronomy-engine) and allows up to 30 minutes of difference; the largest difference found is under 4 minutes.
